Congressman DeSaulnier Hosts Town Hall in Pleasant Hill
On Saturday, Mark hosted a packed town hall at Valley View Middle School in Pleasant Hill where he discussed his recent vote against ICE funding, House Democrats' efforts to lower health care costs, and more. He also took questions from constituents about judicial reform, protecting Head Start programs, and the importance of Congress acting as a strong check on the Trump Administration. If you missed the town hall, you can watch a recording by clicking here or on the image below.

ON THE HOUSE FLOOR

Mark Opposes Additional Funding for ICE
Last week, the House of Representatives considered a bill (H.R. 7148) to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other Department of Homeland Security agencies through February 13th as well as several other cabinet agencies for the rest of the current fiscal year. Congressman DeSaulnier voted against this bill and opposes giving ICE any additional funding because of the agency's lawless and unconstitutional actions. This bill sets up another funding deadline later this week, and Congressman DeSaulnier has been clear that any future funding package must include bare minimum reforms like requiring ICE agents to wear identification and body cameras, and prohibiting them from wearing face coverings or military style uniforms.

Mark Supports Higher Education and Affordability
Last year, Republicans passed their Big Ugly Bill, which funds tax cuts for the wealthy by cutting programs working Americans rely on like SNAP, Medicaid/Medi-Cal, and federal student loan forgiveness. Last week, the House Education & Workforce Committee's Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development held a hearing on college affordability. During his remarks, Congressman DeSaulnierdiscussed how higher education plays an important role in social mobility and how Republicans' Big Ugly Bill is making it less affordable for students and working Americans.
