June 10, 2024
DeSaulnier Digest

AT A GLANCE

In this week's Digest you will find information on:

  • Community events throughout CA-10;
  • Mark's efforts in committee to advocate for a humane immigration system and increase aviation safety; and
  • House Democrats standing against extreme Republican attacks on personal freedoms.

COMMITTEE UPDATES

Mark Highlights the Benefits of Immigration and Diversity
Democrats in Congress continue to be willing to work with Republicans on bipartisan immigration reform and border security legislation. However, past efforts failed when far-right Republicans in the House and Senate proved unwilling to compromise to address the real challenges at the border. At a recent hearing on the impacts of immigration in K-12 schools before the House Committee on Education and the Workforce's Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, Mark spoke about Democrats' willingness to find common ground and build a humane immigration system. He also called attention to the enormous benefits that immigrants bring to our schools, our communities, and our country. Congressman DeSaulnier Continues Aviation Safety Efforts
Following the incident on January 5, 2024, where an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 had a door plug blow out mid-flight, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) initiated additional oversight and inspections related to Boeing's manufacturing processes and quality control procedures. This past week, Congressman DeSaulnier and other members of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure received an update on the FAA's investigation and Boeing's actions in response to the issues identified. The Congressman is continuing his work to ensure Boeing is held accountable and to keep the flying public safe.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

DeSaulnier Opposes Partisan Government Funding Bill
House Republicans recently advanced a reckless and extreme bill (H.R. 8580) that would fund the Department of Veterans Affairs and part of our military for the coming fiscal year while restricting access to reproductive care for veterans, targeting LGBTQ+ service members, undermining equity, and failing to address climate resiliency for the military. Despite Congressman DeSaulnier's opposition, this bill passed the House by a vote of 209-to-197.

CONGRESSIONAL PICNIC

DeSaulnier Attends Congressional Picnic at the White House

Mark was happy to join President Biden, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, and colleagues at this year's Congressional Picnic at the White House. This event is an excellent opportunity for members on both sides of the aisle to join together for summer fun and festivities!
