IN COMMITTEE: DEMOCRATS SUPPORT STUDENTS

Mark Offers Solutions to Help Parents Stay Involved in Children's Education
While Republicans are politicizing the classroom and attempting to overhaul the education system at the federal level, Congressman DeSaulnier offered an amendment to their misguided bill, the Parents Bill of Rights Act (H.R. 5), that would actually support students by expanding access to Statewide Family Engagement Centers, a program he authored that helps parents become more involved in their child's education. DeSaulnier Votes to Stop Unauthorized Military Action
Current military action in Syria began more than seven years ago without the constitutional requirement to get this military action authorized by Congress. Congress has the duty to debate and determine whether or not to authorize the use of military force, including in Syria. Congressman DeSaulnier voted last week on H.Con.Res. 21 to remove unauthorized deployment of U.S. Armed Forces in Syria unless and until Congress specifically authorizes it. Despite his support for this resolution, it failed by a vote of 103-to-321.

Republicans Champion Bill to Make Internet Less Safe
The House recently considered the so-called Protecting Speech from Government Interference Act (H.R. 140), which would make it easier to spread foreign propaganda, promote hateful and violent content on line, and undermine our democracy. Despite Congressman DeSaulnier's opposition, H.R. 140 passed by a vote of 219-to-206.
