Ahead of Emergency Hearing on the Trump Administration’s Decision to Revoke Medical Deferred Action, Representatives DeSaulnier, Pressley, and Raskin hold Press Conference with Impacted Patients Isabel Bueso and Other Impacted Families
Washington, DC – Democratic Members of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, Representatives Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11), Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), and Jamie Raskin (MD-08) will host a press conference tomorrow, Wednesday, September 11th at 11:00 a.m. ET with Isabel Bueso, a chronically ill patient who will testify at an emergency hearing about how she and other families have been impacted by the Trump Administration’s decision to end medical deferred action. The press conference will take place in advance of the Oversight and Reform Committee’s Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties emergency hearing entitled “The Administration’s Apparent Revocation of Medical Deferred Action for Critically Ill Children.” During the hearing, Members will probe representatives from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) about what led to the secretive change to the medical deferred action program.
Ms. Bueso will discuss the life-threatening impacts this sudden and fatal policy change has had on her livelihood. On August 30th, Reps. DeSaulnier, Pressley, Raskin, and 124 additional lawmakers led a bicameral letter to the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Customs and Immigration Services, and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement called on the agencies to turn over any documents discussing the termination of medical deferred action by September 13, 2019.
