Social Security & Medicare
Social Security and Medicare represent our promise to seniors of a secure retirement, and Congressman DeSaulnier is committed to protecting these programs. As 76 million baby boomers approach retirement, Mark is focused on making sure we are able to provide every retiree with the financial security they deserve. He has been a strong advocate for the protection of safety net programs throughout his time in government service and will continue to be a champion for seniors in Congress.
Working for You
Mark is committed to preserving the quality and financial integrity of Medicare so that seniors can access the healthcare they deserve. To help control prescription drug costs in Medicare, he cosponsored the Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act (H.R. 3061), which allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services to negotiate the prices that pharmaceutical companies can charge Medicare part D and Medicare Advantage providers for prescription drugs.
He sponsored the Medicare Premium Fairness Act (H.R. 3696), which prevents increases in Medicare Part B premiums and deductibles.
Congressman DeSaulnier also supports the Seniors Have Eyes, Ears, and Teeth Act (H.R.3308), which would allow Medicare to cover necessary services for healthy aging including eyeglasses, hearing aids, and dental care.
Currently, two titles of the Social Security Act unfairly reduce or eliminate Social Security benefits for millions of Americans who have devoted much of their careers to public service, to fix this issue Congressman DeSaulnier is backing the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 973), which eliminates these problematic provisions.
In order to ensure that the benefits owed to seniors are enough to cover basic living expenses, Mark is a strong supporter of the Social Security 2100 Act (H. R. 1391), which increases benefits across the board and sets a reasonable standard for future cost-of-living adjustments.
