Working Americans built this country and bravely fought for fair pay and safe working conditions. On Labor Day, during a time of record-breaking income inequality and corporate power, we must continue the work of the labor movement and restore power to the American worker. As a former union member and member of the House Committee on Education and Labor, I am proudly fighting for the rights of working people. As we commemorate Labor Day today, I would like to especially thank the workers on the front lines of this pandemic.

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic that has devastated so many lives and livelihoods, President Trump is refusing to join the global effort to find a coronavirus vaccine. This decision will only hurt Americans and reduce our country’s role as a leader in global health efforts for years to come.
The President also threatened to withold crucial federal funding from cities for his own political purposes. This move would be illegal and disastrous as cities struggle to stay afloat due to the pandemic.
