DeSaulnier Digest
Tomorrow is Election Day and I encourage you to make your voice heard through our democratic process.
Please join me for an in-person town hall this Thursday, October 30th at 6:30 p.m.
As we enter week three of the Republican government shutdown, I am hosting a virtual Hands Off Our Health Care Town Hall tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits that will expire if Republicans don't act to extend them. Millions of Americans use the ACA for quality health care for themselves and their families, but without action, ACA insurance premiums are set to rise 114% on average.
Today marks two weeks of the Republican shutdown and 25 days since Speaker Johnson put a stop to all voting on the House Floor as Congressional Republicans continue to refuse to work with Democrats to negotiate a bipartisan funding bill that avoids steep increases in health care costs for the American people.
We are now six days into a government shutdown brought on by Congressional Republicans’ refusal to work with Democrats to come up with a commonsense funding bill that would guard against exorbitant increases in Americans’ health care costs and protect spending from President Trump’s meddling.
Just over 24 hours out from a federal government shutdown, I am back in Washington, D.C. ready to pass a funding bill that keeps our government open and working for the American people while protecting them from devastating health care premium hikes. Unfortunately, House Republicans have decided to stay home and not return to work until next week, after the shutdown deadline has passed.
With millions of Americans set to lose health care coverage as ACA subsidies expire and steep hikes in insurance premiums are on the horizon for most Americans, House Republicans last week chose to pass a short-term funding bill that fails to address these looming health care crises and flee DC to stick the Senate with their mess.
Last week, our nation witnessed another shocking incident of gun violence. From the assassination of Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman earlier this summer to the killing of Charlie Kirk, we must categorically reject political violence and recognize it as a threat to our democracy.
A recent study confirmed what many of us have witnessed - California fire seasons now start earlier and last longer due to climate change. I am hosting a Fire Safety Town Hall in Orinda this Saturday, September 13th at 11:00 a.m. to ensure our community takes preventative safety measures and is prepared in the event of an emergency.
Today marks the official end of District Work Period as I return to Capitol Hill to begin another legislative session. During the weeks I was home, I hosted 4 town halls, attended 23 events around CA-10, and connected with countless members of our community on the issues that matter most to them. I am grateful to have had this time at home to share updates on the work House Democrats are doing to hold the Trump Administration accountable and support the American people.
