DeSaulnier Digest
As you may have heard, Republicans recently passed a disastrous budget bill that cuts critical services for millions of Americans to give a tax break to the ultrawealthy. One piece that has largely been overlooked would undermine our efforts to address climate change by eliminating investments in clean energy infrastructure, which would also raise energy costs across the country and here in CA-10.
To discuss my efforts in Congress to fight back against Trump Administration policies that are undermining progress in the fight against climate change, like the recently passed Republican budget bill that includes provisions that will eliminate investments in clean energy infrastructure, I am hosting an outdoor Environmental Town Hall and Resource Fair on Saturday, July 26th in Oakley.
Last week, all but 2 House Republicans voted to pass a budget bill that strips health care and food assistance from millions of Americans in order to give a huge tax cut to millionaires and billionaires. It is hard to overstate how devastating this piece of legislation is for American families.
I’ll be candid – it has been a very dark week in our country. From the cruel and chaotic ICE raids in cities across our state to the Trump Administration’s militarization of our streets and violence against a U.S. Senator for simply doing his job, I know many of you are concerned about the safety of members of our community and the future of our nation and democracy. I share your concerns and want to take a moment to provide my perspective on these recent events and updates on my efforts to address them.
President Trump's illegal and unilateral attack this weekend against Iran without congressional approval follows a long line of antidemocratic actions by his Administration that challenge the stability and security of our nation and the future of our democracy.

IN COMMITTEE
I am proud to share that my office has advanced more than $35 million in funding for projects that would directly benefit communities in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. These 15 projects will make our roads safer and more efficient, improve outdoor spaces, provide cost-savings and environmental benefits through sustainability, and bolster protection from crime and national disasters.
It was a dark week on Capitol Hill. Despite 29 straight hours of Democratic opposition and the more than 500 amendments that we introduced, my Republican colleagues recklessly voted last week to take away health care for nearly 14 million Americans through cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act and to slash food assistance for families through cuts to SNAP. Republicans made these cuts to programs that the American people rely on to give the ultrawealthy and giant corporations a tax cut.
The Trump Administration's policies targeting public education threaten students with disabilities, student loan programs, and civil rights protections. I've been fighting these attacks in Congress as a senior member of the House Committee on Education and Workforce and will be hosting a virtual Education Town Hall on Wednesday, May 28th from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. to share an update on these efforts to protect students and teachers.
Since taking control of the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives this year, Republicans have remained laser focused on cutting funding for critical programs tens of millions of Americans rely on, like Medicaid and SNAP all so they can give even more tax breaks to the ultrawealthy and big corporations. As they attempt to pass a government budget that includes these cuts and would harm Americans across the country, House Democrats are using every tool at our disposal to stop them.
