The DeSaulnier Digest: Join Our Fire Safety Town Hall This Saturday, September 13
A recent study confirmed what many of us have witnessed - California fire seasons now start earlier and last longer due to climate change. I am hosting a Fire Safety Town Hall in Orinda this Saturday, September 13th at 11:00 a.m. to ensure our community takes preventative safety measures and is prepared in the event of an emergency.
At the town hall, I'll provide an update on fire safety, prevention, and recovery efforts at the federal level and will be joined by expert special guests, Contra Costa Fire Chief Lewis Broschard and Moraga-Orinda Fire Chief Jeff Isaacs, who will highlight local efforts to protect our community.
To join the town hall in person, RSVP here and you will receive the exact location in advance of the event. If you'd prefer to watch at home, the town hall will be livestreamed on both YouTube and Facebook.
I look forward to discussing how we can keep our community safe with you.

Sincerely,
Mark DeSaulnier
Member of Congress
IN THE COMMUNITY
Mark Holds Walk and Talk Town Hall in Martinez
Congressman DeSaulnier gathered with constituents at East Bay Regional Park District's Briones Regional Park in Martinez for a walk and talk town hall on Saturday. After Mark shared an update on the situation in Washington, D.C. and House Democrats' efforts to stand up for working Americans, the group embarked on a trail walk and Mark answered questions.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES
Mark Supports Effort to Force Release of Epstein Files
After the Trump Administration's continued refusals to release additional documents related to Jeffrey Epstein's criminal activity, Congressmen Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) launched a bipartisan effort to force a vote on their bill to require the release of the full Epstein files with appropriate redactions to protect victims. This effort, known as a discharge petition, would force a vote in the House of Representatives on the Epstein Files Transparency Act (H.R. 4405) should the petition obtain 218 signatures from members of the House. Congressman DeSaulnier supports full transparency regarding the Epstein files and has signed the discharge petition. So far four House Republicans have signed on, so we only need two more to tip the scales and trigger a vote.
Congressman DeSaulnier Opposes Effort to Cut Climate Programs
Since he came into office, President Trump and his appointees have worked to undo environmental regulations, eliminate efforts to combat climate change, and weaken other critical programs. House Republicans recently doubled down by advancing a government funding bill (H.R. 4553) that would cut investments in energy efficiency and clean energy programs, decimate nuclear waste cleanup efforts, and accelerate the spread of nuclear weapons. Despite Congressman DeSaulnier's opposition, H.R. 4553 passed the House and is now awaiting further action in the Senate. With a looming government funding deadline on September 30th, Republicans in the House and Senate have not successfully passed a single one of the 12 necessary spending bills into law, risking a government shutdown at the end of the month.
DeSaulnier Votes to Protect Public Lands and Clean Energy Future
Last week, House Republicans advanced three resolutions (H.J.Res. 104, H.J.Res. 105, and H.J.Res. 106) that would nullify Bureau of Land Management resource management plans that safeguard public lands in Montana, North Dakota, and Alaska. These plans protect millions of acres from reckless fossil fuel development, preserve critical habitats, and help advance the transition to clean energy. Repealing them would jeopardize climate goals, increase pollution, and undermine responsible land stewardship. Despite Congressman DeSaulnier's opposition, these resolutions all passed the House and await further consideration in the U.S. Senate.
