LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Congressman DeSaulnier Votes to Support Federal Firefighters and TSA Employees
Despite their demanding jobs, federal firefighters and employees of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) currently lack some of the protections that are provided to other federal employees. Last week, the House of Representatives passed the Federal Firefighters Fairness Act (H.R. 2499) and the Rights for the TSA Workforce Act (H.R. 903) to correct this inequity. H.R. 2499 would ensure that federal firefighters have access to the disability and retirement benefits they have earned, and H.R. 903 would grant TSA employees the pay rates and collective bargaining protections afforded to other federal employees. Both bills passed the House with Congressman DeSaulnier's support.

House Passes Bill to Modernize Anti-Poverty Initiative with DeSaulnier Voting in Support
The Community Services Block Grant funds important state and local programs that serve low-income Americans, but this initiative has not had a major update since 1998. To modernize this grant program and ensure that it remains effective in its goal to reduce poverty, last week the House of Representatives passed the Community Services Block Grant Modernization Act (H.R. 5129). Congressman DeSaulnier voted in support of this bill, which passed by a vote of 246-to-169.

IN THE NEWS

Congressman DeSaulnier Sponsors Judiciary Act to Protect the Right to Choose
"The draft decision from the Supreme Court on Roe is deeply concerning and Congress must now use every legislative tool at our disposal to protect a woman's right to choose," DeSaulnier said in a statement. "As the Supreme Court has become increasingly partisan and extremist, now more than ever we must expand the Court to preserve democracy and the personal liberties of millions of Americans, including the right to make one's own health care decisions."

IN COMMITTEE

With inequality rising in the U.S. for the past several decades, we need to confront it head-on by giving communities the resources they need to fight poverty. To that end, Congressman DeSaulnier testified at the House Committee on Rules about a bipartisan bill to strengthen and build on a critical anti-poverty program that would help those most in need. Watch his full testimony by clicking here or on the image below.
