The DeSaulnier Digest: Democrats Avert Government Shutdown
After weeks of pushing partisan spending bills that were bound to fail and leading the country to the brink of a government shutdown, Speaker McCarthy finally reversed course and allowed a vote on a bipartisan funding bill that my Democratic colleagues and I have been advocating for. The last-minute bill was passed into law, with more Democratic votes in the House than Republican ones, mere hours before the government was set to shut down. This short-term spending bill will fund the government until November 17th and while I was disappointed that it did not include funding for Ukraine, I intend to hold Speaker McCarthy to his word that he will hold a vote to provide funding to Ukraine soon.
Immediately following Saturday's vote on the short-term spending bill, I hosted a Facebook Live town hall to provide an update. If you were unable to join us, you can watch a recording of the event by clicking here or on the image below.
