The DeSaulnier Digest: Extremist Members Push Toward Government Shutdown
With less than a week left until a potential government shutdown, Republican infighting in the House has stalled action on legislation to fund the government beginning on October 1st. Our government should work for the American people, but extremist members of the Republican Party in the House are marching our country toward a government shutdown and insisting on their demands for spending cuts of over 8%.
I, along with my Democratic colleagues in the House, am calling on House Republicans, as the Majority Party, to govern and prevent harm to the American people. Speaker McCarthy must work with Democrats in the House and Senate rather than be extorted by the most extreme faction of his party so that we can pass funding bills, prevent a shutdown, and continue providing essential services Americans need. Despite the Republican dysfunction, House Democrats are working on solutions that would keep the government open and funded at a responsible level.
As we approach the October 1st deadline, my office will be in touch to provide helpful information and resources. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office if we can be of assistance to you or your family.
Sincerely,
Mark DeSaulnier
