LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

House Democrats Oppose Politically Motivated Republican Impeachment Inquiry
House Republicans have spent a year wasting taxpayer money and time that could have been spent serving the American people on a bogus impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Undeterred by the lack of evidence of any wrongdoing, Republicans recently advanced a resolution to open an impeachment inquiry into the President. This is a shameful and politically motivated attempt to distract from the dozens of criminal charges Trump is facing. Despite opposition from Congressman DeSaulnier and every House Democrat in attendance, the resolution passed the House by a vote of 221-to-212.

Mark Stands Up for Workers Amidst Republican Attacks
As a former small business owner, Congressman DeSaulnier knows how important it is that workers are respected and have a voice. Protecting workers' rights to organize and confronting worker misclassification is crucial to ensuring workers succeed. When workers have the power to negotiate for higher wages, better benefits, and safer workplaces, the workforce, businesses, and the economy all benefit. At last week's hearing before the Committee on Education and the Workforce's Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions, Mark pushed back against bills that favor wealthy special interests at the expense of workers' rights.  Congressman DeSaulnier Highlights the Importance of Autonomous Vehicle Safety
At a recent Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure hearing, Congressman DeSaulnier discussed the importance of working across local, state, and federal governments to ensure that autonomous vehicles (AVs) are rolled out safely. This hearing comes after recent issues in San Francisco with AVs acting recklessly, endangering pedestrians, and hindering emergency response vehicles, along with the recent recall of 2 million Teslas due to issues with their Autopilot technology. Mark Opposes Exorbitant Funding for Defense Department
Each year, Congress must pass a bill that sets funding and policy for the Department of Defense, the only federal agency that has never passed an independent audit. Year after year, funding for the Pentagon increases, but there is not enough accountability and oversight to ensure that money is being spent effectively. For this reason, Congressman DeSaulnier has consistently opposed the National Defense Authorization Act, and did so again this year when H.R. 2670 came up for a vote. Despite his opposition, the bill passed by a vote of 310-to-118.
