The DeSaulnier Digest: House Democrats Avert Government Shutdown
I voted last week for legislation to keep government open and working for the American people through the new year. While the bill brought forward by House Republicans was not perfect, it allowed us to avoid a government shutdown without exacting harmful spending cuts.
From the start of this Congress, House Democrats have made it clear that we stand ready to work with our Republican colleagues to find common ground where we can in order to best serve the American people. Now that we’ve averted a shutdown, it is time for Republicans to finally work with the Democratic Caucus in order to pass long-term government funding bills.
I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance support for American families and for our allies abroad when we return to D.C. following the holiday. In the meantime, I want to wish you and your loved ones a very happy Thanksgiving. I am grateful everyday to represent you in Congress.
Sincerely,
Mark DeSaulnier
