Congressman DeSaulnier Named Chair of Education & Labor Subcommittee
Today, Congressman DeSaulnier was named Chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor’s Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) for the 117th Congress. As a former small business owner and union member, Congressman DeSaulnier brings a long record of labor advocacy to HELP, the committee tasked with supporting the needs of America’s workers. The Congressman looks forward to working with the other Members of HELP to support workers during the pandemic and as we rebuild our economy.
Congressman DeSaulnier Votes to Remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Committees
This week, Congressman DeSaulnier voted with his colleagues in the House to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from the Education and Labor Committee and the Budget Committee following her incendiary remarks regarding school shootings and executing certain Democratic politicians, which Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell called "loony lies and conspiracy theories" that amounted to a "cancer" in the Republican Conference. The measure passed the House by a vote of 230-to-199, with 11 Republicans voting in support. In addition to the vote, Congressman DeSaulnier sponsors legislation to censure Rep. Taylor Greene and to have her expelled from Congress.
House Advances Measure for COVID Relief
Democrats in the House have been hard at work paving the way for additional relief for families suffering during the coronavirus pandemic. This week, the House voted in support of the Congressional budget resolution, creating an expedited track for President Biden's American Rescue Plan - a multiprong approach to tackling the public health and economic crises stemming from the pandemic. Congressman DeSaulnier voted in favor of the budget resolution, which passed by a vote of 218-to-212.
