The DeSaulnier Digest: House Passes DeSaulnier's Mental Health Legislation
With one in five adults experiencing mental illness every year, we are in a crisis. I authored the Mental Health Matters Act to confront this country's mental health and substance abuse epidemics by increasing access to support and resources for children, students, workers, and families. I had the honor of leading debate on the House Floor on this critical bill twice this past week.
With the support of my Democratic colleagues, this bill passed the House by a vote of 220-to-205. Tune in to learn more by clicking here or on the image below.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
DeSaulnier Votes to Keep the Government Open for the American People
To ensure the federal government continues to be funded and the American people receive the services they have earned and deserve, Congressman DeSaulnier voted in favor of a bill to continue government funding through December 16, 2022. The legislation also provides $12.3 billion for Ukraine and billions in relief for communities hit by natural disasters, like Florida and Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Ian. The bill passed by a vote of 230-to-201 and was signed into law by the President.
Congressman DeSaulnier Introduces Legislation to Support Americans with Disabilities
People with disabilities, especially those from marginalized communities, have endured isolation during the pandemic while also lacking access to technologies they need to stay connected and in their homes. To help right these wrongs, Congressman DeSaulnier introduced the 21st Century Assistive Technology Act (H.R. 9028), a bipartisan effort to increase the quality of life and expand work opportunities for people with disabilities through increased access to technology equipment and services. Congressman DeSaulnier supported House passage of other important legislation last week, including:
- The Merger Filing Fee Modernization Act (H.R. 3843), which would increase the filing fee that large corporations must pay the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in order to conduct a merger, helping the FTC cope with a recent surge in corporate mergers.
- The PAVA Program Inclusion Act (S. 3969), which would ensure that programs designed to help voters with disabilities are available throughout the U.S. and its territories.
