Congressman DeSaulnier joined the Contra Costa Mayor's Conference to discuss his gun violence prevention effort, Not Here, that highlights the good work being done in Contra Costa County so it can serve as a template for communities across the country to end gun violence locally.

Mark visited the Ironhouse Sanitary District to learn more about the work they do to promote public health and protect the environment.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
DeSaulnier Opposes Rollback of Retirement Protections
Retirees and their financial advisors should have the freedom to invest in the best way for them, and that choice should not be narrowed for them by government. Last week, House Republicans brought up a bill to roll back the U.S. Department of Labor's rule that allows investors to consider investing in companies based on their commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics. For example, an investor might invest in a wind energy producer because of that company's commitment to fight climate change. As the Ranking Member of the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee, Congressman DeSaulnier knows that rolling back this rule will hurt retirees. Despite his opposition, this resolution (H.J.Res. 30) passed by a vote of 216-to-204.

Mark Reintroduces Bill to Combat Corporate Greed
Since 1978, CEO compensation has grown by over 1,400% while the average US worker has seen their pay increase by just 18%. Congressman DeSaulnier reintroduced the CEO Accountability and Responsibility Act (H.R. 1284) to combat income inequality and put an end to runaway corporate greed. To help restore the balance of power back to workers, Congressman DeSaulnier's bill would increase corporate taxes on companies that have extreme disparities between CEO and worker pay and would give preferential treatment in federal contracts to companies with pay ratios below 50-to-1.
Congressman DeSaulnier Votes Against Partisan Bill Offering No Real Solutions on High Costs for Families
While families are facing high costs of living, House Republicans continue to be all talk, no action on inflation. Congressman DeSaulnier voted against the misleadingly named Reduce Exacerbated Inflation Negatively Impacting the Nation (REIN IN) Act (H.R. 347), which does not offer real solutions for working families. House Republicans also blocked an amendment authored by Congressman DeSaulnier that would have shed light on how failed Republican tax policies are contributing to inflation. H.R. 347 passed the House by a vote of 272-to-148 over Congressman DeSaulnier's objections.
