The DeSaulnier Digest: Join Our Town Hall on January 30th
Like many of you, I am concerned about the actions the new Administration has already taken and the threats they pose to our most vulnerable communities and to our economy. I am hosting a town hall to discuss the path forward under this new Administration on Thursday, January 30th at 6:30 p.m. in Walnut Creek.
I'll share an update on House Democrats' work to protect our personal freedoms and safeguard democracy and answer your questions. Click here or on the flyer below to RSVP.
I hope to see you at the Center for Community Arts next week for this important conversation.

Sincerely,
Mark DeSaulnier
Member of Congress
IN THE COMMUNITY
Congressman DeSaulnier Spends MLK Day Volunteering in Community
As has long been his tradition, Mark joined CA-10 residents yesterday to spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day in service to our community and in memory of Dr. King's legacy and his pursuit of greater social justice and racial equality for all.

Mark Hosts Service Academy Nominations for Students
Congressman DeSaulnier joined a panel of local active duty military, veterans, and stakeholders to interview prospective students for nomination to our nation's five prestigious military academies. Our office is proud to support young adults interested in pursuing service to their country through service academy nominations.

LEGISLATIVE UDPATES
DeSaulnier Opposes School Sports Exclusion Bill
Rather than solving real problems facing Americans, like the high cost of living, House Republicans recently advanced a bill that would endanger young girls trying to participate in school sports by subjecting them to invasive physical examinations. The bill would also effectively ban all trans girls and women from participating on sports teams and deprive them of the ability to be a part of their school community and learn life skills. Despite Congressman DeSaulnier's strong opposition, the bill passed the House by a vote of 218-to-206. Congressman DeSaulnier remains committed to ensuring that the civil liberties of all citizens are upheld, and that Congress fulfills its obligation to protect children from harm.
Mark Calls for Disaster Aid for LA Wildfires
The wildfires across Los Angeles have devastated many communities and families, burning over 40,000 acres and killing at least 27 people. The President, along with many Republicans in Congress, have called for California to meet certain conditions based on disinformation before receiving disaster aid for the current wildfires. Putting conditions on disaster aid turns much needed assistance for individuals, first responders, and firefighters into a political fight. Last week, Mark called out Republicans for politicizing disaster assistance and will continue to support aid to all communities that are harmed by disasters.
IN COMMITTEE
Congressman DeSaulnier Highlights the Importance of Remote Work
The pandemic has highlighted how remote work can cut down commutes, improve quality of life, and reduce pressure on infrastructure, especially here in the Bay Area where onerous commutes have long been a part of daily life for so many. Last week, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure held a hearing where Congressman DeSaulnier discussed the many benefits of remote work for communities like the East Bay. Mark has long advocated for remote work and better management of transportation infrastructure to adjust to these changing times. To see his remarks, click here or on the image below.
