Congressman DeSaulnier Speaks with Acting Labor Secretary about Helping Small Business
Congressman DeSaulnier is proud of the work Acting Secretary Julie Su has done at the Department of Labor to improve the lives of workers and ensure that businesses that play by the rules are supported and protected. In their exchange at a hearing before the House Education & Workforce Committee, Mark focused on the legislation that Democrats in Congress passed with the help of the Biden Administration that has saved more than 800,000 pensions to date and is expected to save more than a million. Mark Highlights Work to Advance Zero-Emissions Transportation
During a recent House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing on electric vehicles (EVs), Congressman DeSaulnier discussed the importance of making our energy and transportation sectors cleaner, emphasizing the consequences of remaining dependent on fossil fuels. He discussed his bill, the Clean Corridors Act, that was included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and is helping the transition through its $2.5 billion investment in EV charging and alternative fueling infrastructure. LEGISLATIVE UPDATES
DeSaulnier Votes Against Anti-Conservation Efforts
This past week, House Republicans attempted again to undermine conservation of public lands by advancing four bills that would threaten protections for public lands and wildlife. Despite the Congressman’s strong opposition, all of the bills passed the House. The bills include:
- H.R. 3397, which would stop the implementation of an important Bureau of Land Management rule that establishes conservation as an equal priority with other uses for public lands, like grazing and oil and gas extraction on public land. This bill passed by a vote of 212-to-202.
- H.R. 615, which would prevent the prohibition or the regulation of use of harmful lead ammunition or tackle on federal lands. This bill passed by a vote of 214-to-201.
- H.R. 764, which would delist the gray wolves from the endangered and threatened species list, despite scientific research not showing a need to delist them. This bill passed by a vote of 209-to-205.
- H.R. 6285, which would reverse the Interior Department’s actions to protect Alaska’s Arctic wilderness from oil and gas extraction. This bill passed by a vote of 214-to-199.
House Passes Anti-Immigrant Resolution Despite DeSaulnier's Opposition
Once again, extreme MAGA Republicans in the House recently advanced a nonbinding resolution (H.Res. 1112) condemning the Biden Administration’s immigration policies. This resolution demonizes immigrants who come to America in search of a better life and to escape violence and persecution in their home countries, while doing nothing to help fix our broken immigration system. For these reasons, Congressman DeSaulnier opposed this resolution. Despite his opposition, it passed the House by a vote of 223-to-191.
