The DeSaulnier Digest: Mark Hosts 200th Town Hall
Over the weekend, I hosted my 200th town hall since coming to Congress at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill where I had the opportunity to provide a congressional update and hear from constituents on issues that matter most to our community. It was wonderful to share this momentous occasion with you and I am grateful to represent you in Congress.
Sincerely,
Mark DeSaulnier

Mark Speaks Against Republican Efforts to Hinder Emissions Reductions
This year, the EPA published a proposed rule to increase emissions standards for cars in order to protect the health of our communities, reduce climate pollution, and save drivers money through reduced fuel costs. However, Republicans advanced a bill (H.R. 4468) which would prevent the EPA from implementing this rule or any other rule that might help advance alternative fuel or electric vehicles. Congressman DeSaulnier spoke out against this bill on the House Floor, but despite his strong objections, the bill passed with a vote of 221-to-197. Mark Opposes Misguided Bill that Would Jeopardize U.S. Scientific Research
While undue foreign influence and intellectual property theft at colleges and universities are serious concerns, dealing with these issues requires a nuanced approach so we do not stymie research or perpetuate discrimination. House Republicans recently advanced a bill (H.R. 5933) that would impose overly burdensome reporting requirements for foreign gifts and contracts on colleges and universities and restrict their contracts with certain foreign countries on research. By requiring schools to maintain a public database with personal information on individual faculty and staff, this bill would also have a chilling effect on critical research. Despite Congressman DeSaulnier’s opposition, this bill passed the House by a vote of 246-to-170.
