The DeSaulnier Digest: Mark Introduces New Bill to Improve Healthcare
LEGISLATIVE UPDATES
Mark Authors Bill to Improve Patient Experience in Healthcare
For patients with cancer and other chronic diseases, it can be difficult to navigate the healthcare system alone. Health outcomes and patient satisfaction have seen demonstrable improvement when patient navigators help guide their care. For example, studies show cancer treatment started an average of nine days earlier when patients were enrolled in a patient navigation program. To expand access to patient navigation services, Congressman DeSaulnier introduced the Patient Navigation Assistance Act. The Congressman's bill would require Medicaid to cover patient navigation services for those with cancer and other chronic diseases. Expanded access to these services will help improve the patient experience as well as health outcomes.
Congressman DeSaulnier Unveils Bill to Review and Correct Historical Injustices
In order to realize the founding ideals of our country, we must recognize and address the darker chapters in American history marked by discrimination and hate. To address such injustices, Congressman DeSaulnier introduced the Confronting and Correcting Historical Injustices Act, a bill that would establish an independent commission responsible for reviewing and investigating federal cases in which individuals and groups have been unjustly discriminated against and recommend legislative or executive action to remedy these cases.
