The DeSaulnier Digest: Mark Joins in Honoring Rosies the Riveter
When I came to Congress and until 2022, I was proud to represent the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historic Park in Richmond and during that time I led efforts to recognize the impact Rosies had both on the home front effort during World War II and on advancing the role of women in the workforce. Last week, one of those efforts came to fruition and Rosies were presented with the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony, which I spearheaded with former Representatives Jackie Speier and George Miller. It was wonderful to have so many Rosies present as we formally recognized their invaluable and lasting contributions to our nation.
Sincerely,
Mark DeSaulnier
Member of Congress

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES
Mark Votes Against Extending Warrantless Surveillance of American Citizens
While Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act authorizes the collection of intelligence on foreign nationals living abroad, information on U.S. citizens can be inadvertently swept up in these collections. As courts have revealed, intelligence agencies have abused this authority to review data on U.S. citizens. Congressman DeSaulnier strongly supports the intelligence community and the important work they do to keep us safe, but also believes that this work does not have to jeopardize Americans' hard-won individual privacy rights. Last week, the House considered a bill (H.R. 7888) to reauthorize Section 702, renewing the authority of intelligence agencies to gather this information without sufficient reforms to protect both security and civil liberties. Despite Congressman DeSaulnier's opposition, the bill passed the House by a vote of 273-to-147 and awaits consideration by the U.S. Senate.
