MARK LEADS DEMOCRATS' EFFORT TO AVERT DISASTROUS DEFAULT

New York Times Covers Mark's Bill that Could Help U.S. Avoid Default
Raising the debt ceiling allows the United States to pay the bills we already owe, including Social Security and Medicare benefits and military salaries. If we do not raise the debt ceiling, we default on our debt - for the first time ever in U.S. history - which would almost certainly trigger a recession and precipitate a global financial crisis. With House Republicans refusing to vote to raise the debt limit without imposing cuts to programs millions of Americans rely on in exchange, Mark quietly introduced legislation months ago that could allow a path for a vote on a clean debt limit raise by circumventing Republican leadership.
