The DeSaulnier Digest: Mark Leads Effort to Highlight Unfair Burden of Proposed Bridge Toll Increases on Bay Area Residents
AT A GLANCE
In this week's Digest, you will find information on:
- Congressman DeSaulnier's joint town hall with Congressman Swalwell in Dublin;
- Mark's concerns over the unfair impact of proposed new bridge tolls; and
- Funding Mark secured to improve the juvenile justice system in Contra Costa.
DUBLIN TOWN HALL
Joined by Congressman Eric Swalwell (CA-14), Mark hosted a town hall in Dublin to provide an update on what Democrats have been working on in Congress to support American families and to take audience questions on the issues most important to Tri-Valley residents. Thanks to everyone who came out!

IN THE NEWS
Proposed bridge toll increases in the Bay Area would disproportionately impact working people without providing a long-term solution for public transit issues. In response to proposed legislation at the state level, Congressman DeSaulnier and Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (CA-16) co-led a letter to Governor Newsom and State Senate and Assembly Leaders signed by many of their colleagues voicing concerns over the unfair burden this proposal would place on the people they represent, particularly moderate-income, car-dependent Bay Area residents who must commute across bridges because they cannot afford to live near where they work. IN THE COMMUNITY
Mark Presents Contra Costa County Probation Department with Funding He Secured to Improve Juvenile Justice System
Through the federal funding process, Congressman DeSaulnier was able to secure over $1 million for the Contra Costa County Probation Department to help them modernize the juvenile justice system. This funding will assist them in improving engagement to reduce youth arrests. He was proud to join with the Department and the County Board of Supervisors to present the funding.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
DeSaulnier Introduces Bill to Fund Early Education and Supportive Services for Children with Disabilities
Congressman DeSaulnier recently joined with Congressman Jared Huffman (D-CA) to introduce the Funding Early Childhood is the Right IDEA Act (H.R. 5141), a bill to restore full funding for education and early intervention services for children with disabilities. Funding for the federal grant programs that assist states with early intervention services for children with disabilities aged zero to five has not kept pace with the growth in need, resulting in less funding per child. Infants, toddlers, preschool children, and their schools deserve adequate funding to ensure the delivery of high-quality early intervention and preschool special education services. This bill would restore per-child peaks in funding and ensure that every child, regardless of disability status, has an equal opportunity to obtain high-quality early childhood services.
