IN COMMITTEE
Mark Fights for American Workers and Retirees
Americans rely on professional financial advice when investing their hard-earned money in their retirement. While the vast majority of retirement advisors do right by their clients, unfortunately, loopholes in the current financial oversight system allow bad actors to provide dishonest advice. As the top Democrat on the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions at the Education and Workforce Committee, Congressman DeSaulnier spoke with experts on how to fix the system and help make sure people don’t get cheated out of their retirement savings. ON THE HOUSE FLOOR
Congressman DeSaulnier Votes Against Republican Giveaways to Oil and Gas Industry
Earlier this year, the Biden Administration issued a temporary pause on liquified natural gas (LNG) exports to allow time for the Department of Energy (DOE) to conduct a review of the economic and environmental impacts of LNG exports. House Republicans have advanced a bill (H.R. 7176) that would prevent DOE from having a say in whether or not each application to export LNG to certain countries is in the public interest. This effort would not only cause gas prices to increase for Americans, but would also prevent DOE’s efforts to ensure LNG exports continue to benefit Americans. Despite Congressman DeSaulnier’s strong opposition, H.R. 7176 passed the House by a vote of 224-to-200.
House Passes Partisan Impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary on Second Try Despite DeSaulnier's Opposition
After a failed attempt earlier this month, House Republicans last week succeeded in passing a resolution to impeach President Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas. Congressman DeSaulnier opposed this effort because it was nothing more than a political stunt that was based entirely on policy differences, which is not appropriate grounds for an impeachment. The solemn power of impeachment given to Congress should be reserved for treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. While Congressman DeSaulnier opposed House passage of the impeachment resolution (H.Res. 863), it passed the House by a vote of 214-to-213.
