LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

Congressional Democrats and President Biden Avert Government Shutdown
Last week, Congress passed and President Biden signed into law a deal to avoid a partial government shutdown looming after March 1st. The new spending law extends government funding later into March, and an agreement was announced on six of the 12 annual government funding bills to keep the government funded on a longer-term basis. Despite opposition from far-right Republicans, the Extension of Continuing Appropriations and Other Matters Act, 2024 (H.R. 7463) passed the House with Congressman DeSaulnier’s support by a vote of 320-to-99. Mark will continue to advocate for long-term government funding that protects important programs that support countless Americans.

Congressman DeSaulnier Reintroduces Legislation to Protect Elections
As Americans increasingly turn to social media for news, cracking down on bots and misinformation online is essential. Congressman DeSaulnier reintroduced the Bots Research Act (H.R. 7492), which would establish a taskforce to investigate the impact of bot accounts on elections and public discourse. This bill has also consistently been included in Democrats’ sweeping democracy reform package, the For the People Act.
