- A recent exchange between Mark and the Secretary of Education.
CONGRESSMAN DESAULNIER RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING CONSTITUENT SERVICE
Congressman DeSaulnier was selected as a finalist by the Congressional Management Foundation, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization, for their Democracy Award for outstanding achievement in the category of Constituent Accountability and Accessibility. This award is given to Congressional offices that provide clear and relevant information on their work and publicly acknowledge metrics for that performance. Constituent service is at heart of the Mark's work in Congress, and he is proud that his efforts on behalf of the people of CA-10 have been recognized.

IN THE NEWS
As Republicans continue their threat to tank the U.S. and global economies by refusing to raise the debt limit, Democrats are preserving an important tool made possible by a bill Congressman DeSaulnier introduced earlier this year to raise the debt limit. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Mark Votes Against Irresponsible Law Enforcement Legislation
Last week, House Republicans put forth several pieces of legislation related to law enforcement, including H.R. 2494, which would radically expand deportation of lawful permanent residents and other immigrants and H.R. 3091, which would facilitate the purchase of retired handguns by federal law enforcement officers without commonsese gun safety regulations. Unfortunately, these bills would not improve policing, increase accountability for law enforcement, or make our communities safer. Accordingly, Congressman DeSaulnier opposed House passage of these proposals. Despite Mark's opposition, H.R 2494 passed by a vote of 255-to-175 and H.R. 3091 passed by a vote of 232-to-198.
