October 7, 2024
DeSaulnier Digest

October marks the start of another District Work Period for the House of Representatives. This month, I will be hosting town halls, office hours, and listening tours around our community.

First up, I will be hosting a
Walk and Talk Town Hall at EBMUD's Lafayette Reservoir on Saturday, October 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to share updates from my work in Congress to deliver for CA-10 and to hear from you on issues important to our community. We encourage you to bring your dogs for this special outdoor town hall.

To join us, click here or on the flyer below. I hope to see you there!

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Congressman DeSaulnier Introduces Bill to Protect Retirement and Health Coverage
Workplace-provided retirement and health care plans are fundamental to the lives of millions of Americans. Whether accessing a lifetime of savings in a 401(k) plan or critical medical care covered by an employer-sponsored health care plan, Americans deserve to be treated fairly and have the right to seek a remedy in court if their benefits are wrongly denied. Unfortunately, in recent years, plan sponsors have made it harder and harder for workers and retirees to pursue a remedy in court when they're wrongly denied benefits under their retirement plan or health care plan.

To address these barriers, Congressman DeSaulnier and Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) authored the Employee and Retiree Access to Justice Act (H.R. 9820), which would prohibit unfair practices like forced arbitration and mandatory class action and help restore workers' and retirees' access to the legal system for claims involving their workplace retirement or health care plans.
