Rep DeSaulnier in hearing

The DeSaulnier Digest: State of the Union and a Busy Week in D.C.

March 7, 2022
DeSaulnier Digest

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend President Biden's State of the Union address and hear him lay out Democrats' plans to continue supporting American families by lowering the costs of their everyday expenses and to support democracy at home and abroad by standing with the people of Ukraine against Vladimir Putin's unlawful, brazen, and horrific attacks on their sovereignty.

I was proud to have First 5 Contra Costa Executive Director Ruth Fernandez join me as my virtual guest in recognition of her work to support the education of children across the County.

Following the address, I was honored to have a few minutes to talk with the President. I look forward to continuing to work alongside him and my colleagues in Congress on behalf of the American people. As the President said, the state of our union is strong because the American people are strong. I am confident that despite our current challenges, our best days lie ahead.

Sincerely,
Signature
Mark DeSaulnier
Member of Congress

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Congressman DeSaulnier Votes in Support of Ukraine
As Russia continues its unwarranted, aggressive, and unrelenting attack on Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, the United States must be steadfast and deliberate. While Congress continues its work to draft a bill to provide financial support for Ukraine, last week the House of Representatives passed a resolution that demands an immediate cease-fire and the full withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukrainian territory and expresses unequivocal support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity (H.Res. 956). Congressman DeSaulnier voted in support of this resolution, which passed by a vote of 426-to-3.

Congressman DeSaulnier Supports Effort to Care for Toxic-Exposed Veterans
Millions of veterans who were exposd to toxic substances during their military service have struggled to receive the benefits they have earned. To fix this injustice, last week the House of Representatives passed the Honoring our PACT Act (H.R. 3967). This bill would expand access to health care for 3.5 million veterans who have been exposed to toxic substances from sources like burn pits, oil and gas fires, and other airborne hazards. Congressman DeSaulnier voted in support of this bill, which passed by a vote of 256-to-174.
