The DeSaulnier Digest: Tune into our Town Hall Live on Thursday

January 27, 2025
DeSaulnier Digest

Over the past week, the new Administration has issued a flurry of concerning executive orders that would harm the American people, including by raising health care costs for seniors, levying reckless tariffs that will drive up consumer prices, threatening immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities, and rolling back progress on climate change.

In the wake of these actions, I am hosting a town hall on Thursday, January 30th at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the path forward under this new Administration and my efforts in Congress on behalf of our district and the American people.

We've had such an overwhelming response to this town hall on Thursday that unfortunately, the venue has reached capacity. If you were hoping to join us but had not yet RSVP'd, you can watch the event live on Facebook or YouTube.

I hope you will tune in this Thursday at 6:30 p.m., and if you are interested in joining us for a future town hall in person, please stay tuned on my social media and through these newsletters for upcoming events.

Sincerely,

Mark DeSaulnier
Member of Congress

Congressman DeSaulnier Fights for Infrastructure Funding
Under the Biden Administration, historic investments through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law helped to improve the safety and reliability of our roadways and infrastructure. Unfortunately, the new Administration has paused all funding for these much-needed improvements. During last week's House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure hearing, the Congressman highlighted the detrimental consequences this pause has on workers, businesses, communities, and projects across the country, including projects on the I-680 corridor. To hear his remarks at the Transportation and Infrastructure hearing, click here or on the image below.

You can also read more about his thoughts, in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

Congressman DeSaulnier Opposes Attacks on Reproductive Rights
Last Wednesday, January 22nd, marked the 52nd anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade. For 49 years, this decision guaranteed the right to abortion in the U.S., until it was overturned in 2022 by the conservative majority on the Supreme Court. This deeply misguided decision allows states to restrict women's access to abortion, infringing on freedom and leading to worse health outcomes. Continuing their attacks on women's health, House Republicans recently advanced legislation (H.R. 21) that would further stigmatize abortion care. Despite Congressman DeSaulnier's strong opposition to this bill, it passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 217-to-204, with one abstention.

Mark Opposes Misguided Attempts to Address Wildfires
The wildfires across the state over the last few years are a devastating reminder that climate change will continue to wreak havoc on our communities if we do not take steps to tackle it. Last week, the House voted on a bill (H.R. 471), which was a misguided attempt to improve wildfire management across the country. While the bill contained some good provisions, it did not contain any funding to support agencies in carrying out wildfire mitigation measures, and it would roll back essential environmental laws and limit the public's ability to play a role in the process. Mark remains committed to ensuring our communities are protected from wildfires, but despite his opposition to this bill, it passed the House by a vote of 279-to-141.
