LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Mark Stands Up for Transgender Youth
House Republicans are continuing their attacks on LGBTQ+ Americans, most recently by advancing legislation to ban transgender girls from participating in school sports. Congressman DeSaulnier opposed House passage of the misleadingly named Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act (H.R. 734) because school sports should be available to all students. This bill passed the House by a vote of 219-to-203 despite Congressman DeSaulnier's opposition.
Congressman DeSaulnier Votes to Protect Clean Water
As part of their continued assault on clean water protections, House Republicans last week attempted to override President Biden's veto of H.J.Res. 27, a resolution that would have gutted federal regulations that protect bodies of water nationwide. Congressman DeSaulnier voted against this effort to weaken safeguards for clean water, and the resolution failed to gain the 2/3 majority required for passage, by a vote of 227-to-196, allowing the Biden-era water protections to stay in place.
IN COMMITTEE
Mark Continues Advocacy for Aviation Safety
As part of the upcoming Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization, Congressman DeSaulnier is continuing his work to advocate for policies that would improve aviation safety. At a recent hearing before the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Congressman DeSaulnier highlighted how proper training for pilots can help prevent disasters, like the 2017 near-miss incident at San Francisco International Airport and the 2009 ditching of an aircraft in the Hudson River.
