The DeSaulnier Digest: Wrapping Up a Busy Legislative Season
Improving access to mental health care is personal to me and one of my top priorities in Congress. I recently had the honor of joining President Biden at the White House to celebrate landmark action his Administration is taking to increase access to mental health services by strengthening health parity so more Americans can get the quality, affordable care they need. I look forward to continuing my efforts in Congress to address our nation’s mental health crisis.

Sincerely,
Mark DeSaulnier
Member of Congress

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Republican House Majority Behind Schedule to Avoid Government Shutdown
When the process follows exactly as designed, both the House and Senate would draft and pass 12 separate bills that make up all funding for the federal government before September 30th of each year. Due to in-fighting among Republicans, the House is far behind schedule to pass all of the bills needed to avoid a government shutdown. Last week, two of those bills were scheduled for votes, but only one ended up on the floor. In the end, the House only considered the bill that would fund military construction and the Department of Veterans Affairs, which if passed would result in deep cuts to programs our veterans have earned and rely on. Despite Congressman DeSaulnier's opposition, it passed by a partisan vote of 219-to-211.
Congressman DeSaulnier Introduces Bill to Support Transit Oriented Development
As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Congressman DeSaulnier is committed to ensuring land use and transit work together to improve people’s daily lives. The Congressman recently reintroduced the Equitable Transit Oriented Development Support Act (H.R. 4857), which would help expand support for projects that create walkable, lively communities near transit. This bill would also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, and create more resilient communities.
