Congressman DeSaulnier Announces San Ramon Student as Winner of CA-10’s 2024 Congressional Art Competition

May 6, 2024

Walnut Creek, CA – Today, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) announced Nidhi Parachuri, a high school junior who lives in San Ramon and attends the California School of Art and Design in Pleasanton, as the winner of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for California’s 10th Congressional District. Her acrylic painting, Simply Chaos, will be displayed in the United States Capitol.

“We had a very impressive and inspiring group of submissions this year that are a testament to the skill and ingenuity of CA-10’s student artists. Each year, this competition reminds us of the importance of arts and humanities in our community and of fostering creativity in young people,” said Congressman DeSaulnier. “I’m looking forward to seeing Nidhi’s piece when I walk through the halls of the Capitol!”

25 works in total were submitted to CA-10’s competition and the runners up were:

  • Michelle Tang of The College Preparatory School (Sophomore) for her watercolor painting, Capturing the Moment, Missing the Experience; and
  • Emma Wen of Dougherty Valley High School (Sophomore) for her pencil sketch, Deer in Headlights.

The Congressman hosted a gallery show and awards ceremony at the Moraga Art Gallery to announce this year’s winners, join with students and community members to celebrate the students’ hard work, and showcase this year’s submissions.

The winning pieces were selected by a panel of local judges, consisting of Eric Sanchez, Lucy Snow, and John Schall of Los Medanos College.

The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
