March 6, 2024

Walnut Creek, CA – Today, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) announced Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools, Lynn Mackey as his guest to the upcoming State of the Union address. U.S. economic growth is inherently tied to the expansion of educational opportunities. With President Biden expected to focus on the need to build upon the strong economic growth he and Congressional Democrats have created over the past four years, Congressman DeSaulnier and Superintendent Mackey are highlighting the importance of investing more in quality education and expanding its access and affordability to ensure an economy that works for all Americans for generations to come.

“For the past six years, Superintendent Mackey has led our school districts with a deep belief that there is always more we can do to support students, teachers, and families of all backgrounds, and her tenure reflects this,” said Congressman DeSaulnier. “At a time when students and teachers need it the most, Lynn’s work to promote equity in education at every opportunity represents the very best our education system can be. I am proud of our long working relationship and shared efforts to best meet the educational needs across Contra Costa.”

“I am excited to witness the State of the Union address and hear about the priorities of the executive branch,” Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools Lynn Mackey said. “I appreciate the invitation from Representative DeSaulnier and look forward to an opportunity to advocate on behalf of the students, teachers, and families of Contra Costa County and learn more about the resources available from the federal government to support public education.”

As a senior member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, Congressman DeSaulnier has embarked on an Education Listening Tour across California’s 10th Congressional District, visiting local schools to hear directly from students and school staff about education challenges and opportunities he can help to address through his work in Congress.

The Congressman and Superintendent Mackey will be available to press prior to the event. Media interested in conducting an interview should contact Mairead Glowacki at mairead.glowacki@mail.house.gov(link sends email) or at (202) 760-1365.
