Congressman DeSaulnier’s Statement on CBO Score of Senate TrumpCare Bill

June 26, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) issued the following statement after the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its report on the Senate version of Trumpcare.

"The central tenant of the Hippocratic oath: first do no harm – Primum non nocere – should apply not only to medical professionals, but to Members of Congress. My Republican colleagues ought to ask themselves: Is this the America they want to leave for their children?

The non-partisan, independent CBO review confirms that 22 million Americans will be kicked off their insurance and millions could see their premiums increase by up to 20 percent next year. In the U.S. approximately 64 percent of Americans in nursing homes are dependent on Medicaid and would be put at risk under the Republican plan. Experts expect half a million working families would lose assistance to pay for premiums; more than 15 million cancer survivors would be forced to pay thousands more for the coverage they need; 33 million children would lose their chance at a healthy future; and more than 200,000 Americans would die."
