Representatives DeSaulnier, Pressley, and Chu Issue Statement After USCIS, ICE, and DHS Miss Deadline on Medical Deferred Action
Washington, DC – Today, Representatives Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11), Ayanna Pressley (MA-7), and Judy Chu (CA-27) issued the following statement after U.S. Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) missed the deadline to provide answers about the Trump Administration's decision to abruptly non-military deferred action requests, including medical deferred action. The Representatives previously co-led over 100 Members of Congress in demanding answers from DHS, ICE by September 13, 2019.
"During last week's Oversight Subcommittee hearing, we heard from children with life-threatening illnesses whose livelihood is currently under threat by the xenophobic Trump administration. On August 30th, we demanded answers from this administration when we learned of the cruel and needless decision to endanger critically ill immigrant children and their families. Instead of transparency and collaboration, we've been met with more stonewalling, obstruction and cowardice. We must continue to fight on behalf these families by issuing a formal subpoena through the Oversight Committee so we can uncover the truth."
