Statement of Congressman DeSaulnier on Passage of the Highway Trust Fund

Washington, DC -- The House Majority passed a two-month extension of the Highway Trust Fund, which funds roads, bridges and public transit construction, instead of a longer-term plan to address our nation's crumbling infrastructure.

"There is no question our nation's infrastructure is in dire need of repair. At the moment, 6,000 construction projects across the country are dependent on money from the Highway Trust Fund, and over 660,000 construction jobs hang in the balance as we head into the critical summer construction season. It is long past time for the Congress to end the practice of short-term patches and chronic underinvestment in our infrastructure. I will continue working with my colleagues on a well-funded, multi-year bill that makes necessary repairs, executes major capital investment projects and creates jobs," said Congressman Mark DeSaulnier.
