Walnut Creek, CA – Today, Congressman DeSaulnier introduced the Gun Safety Board and Research Act (H.R. 4177), a bill to enable evidence-based solutions to gun violence. The Board, which will be housed at the Department of Health and Human Services in recognition that gun violence is a public health epidemic, will be responsible for conducting research, evaluating federal and state policy proposals, and recommending best practices for reducing gun violence.
Throughout the month of August, we have been hard at work meeting with constituents and hosting events across Contra Costa County. Last week alone, we held three town halls – in Richmond, Danville, and San Pablo — with a combined total of over 1,000 attendees. Additionally, we held a veterans resource fair to better connect Contra Costa's veterans with information about the benefits they have earned and deserve.

Due to the overwhelming interest in our Danville Town Hall, we have moved locations. The town hall will now be held at the Charlotte Wood Middle School on Thursday, August 8th at 6:30 p.m. Please join us for an update on what is happening in Washington and a discussion on news of the day, including this week's mass shootings.
With the month of August right around the corner and Congress beginning its annual August district work period, we have several upcoming events in the community that will provide an opportunity for Contra Costa residents to share their opinion on a number of important topics.
The upcoming week will be a busy one in Washington as the House continues its effort to hold the Administration accountable with Special Counsel Robert Mueller set to testify before Congress. With so much going on, we will host a pair of town halls to provide Contra Costa residents with the latest information.
