DeSaulnier Digest
Last week, I introduced legislation that would require vehicles purchased by the federal government to meet low greenhouse gas emissions standards. The Clean Federal Fleet Act (H.R. 5554) will ensure that the federal government leads the effort to mitigate the harmful effects of climate change by increasing fuel economy.
As the Trump Administration continuously rolls back environmental protections despite overwhelming, scientific evidence of a climate crisis, we must signal to the world that we stand committed to protecting our planet.
The first year of the 116th Congress has been productive and eventful. In addition to the impeachment of President Trump and other critical steps taken to hold the President and his Administration accountable, the Democratic Majority in the U.S. House of Representatives had many historic successes on behalf of the American people.

As I return to Washington this week, we will continue our work on pressing issues facing the country and begin the public phase of the impeachment inquiry into President Trump. As this historic process continues, please know that I will keep your views and comments in mind.
Last Thursday, the House voted to move into the next phase of our impeachment inquiry. The resolution, which passed without a single Republican Member in support, outlines the rights of Republican Members and the President or his attorney to be active participants in the process. It also empowers the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Committee on the Judiciary to hold open impeachment hearings so that the public can watch the process unfold with their own eyes.
