Washington, D.C. – Today, Representatives Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) and Zoe Lofgren (CA-18) sent a letter to the Administration opposing reported efforts to reopen Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Dublin to house immigrant detainees. The letter, which was sent to the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, the Acting Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), and the Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, highlights the unsafe and hazardous conditions at the facility that necessitated its closure just months ago, the facility’s history of abuse of incarcerated immigrants, and its insufficient infrastructure for this population, and urges the Administration to abandon any plans it may have to reopen FCI Dublin.
