Today marks the official end of District Work Period as I return to Capitol Hill to begin another legislative session. During the weeks I was home, I hosted 4 town halls, attended 23 events around CA-10, and connected with countless members of our community on the issues that matter most to them. I am grateful to have had this time at home to share updates on the work House Democrats are doing to hold the Trump Administration accountable and support the American people.
President Trump has taken another step towards authoritarianism. Despite a marked decrease in violent crime in Washington, D.C., Trump claimed a crime emergency and placed the D.C. police under federal control. He also ordered more than 2,000 armed National Guard troops to patrol the streets of our nation's capital. President Trump continues to threaten a broader authoritarian power grab of other major cities including San Francisco, Chicago, and New York by trying to control their independent law enforcement agencies.
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman DeSaulnier (CA-10) announced that he introduced three gun safety reform bills to help end the gun violence epidemic – the Local Gun Violence Reduction Act (H.R. 4883), the Gun Safety Board and Research Act (H.R. 4882), and the Advancing Gun Safety Technology Act (H.R. 4918).
This Thursday, I am hosting a town hall in Lafayette with special guest Congressman Jim McGovern (MA-02), a prominent member of Democratic Leadership and the top Democrat on the House Committee on Rules, to provide updates on our work to stand up for American families and resist the Trump agenda.
