Join us for a town hall on October 26th at 2:30 p.m. about local efforts that have proven successful in reducing gun violence in California and Contra Costa County, and how we can help to implement these policies nationwide. Special guests from the University of California Davis's Violence Prevention Research Program and Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence will be on hand, too. During the event, I'll also talk about my "Not Here" initiative, which would help use Contra Costa as a model for gun violence reduction across the country.

Washington, DC – Today, Representatives Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) and Jim Langevin (RI-02) along with Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced the introduction of the Protection and Advocacy in Education Act (H.R. 9100), legislation that would help students with disabilities receive the educational support to which they are legally entitled.

I authored the Mental Health Matters Act to confront this country's mental health and substance abuse epidemics by increasing access to support and resources for children, students, workers, and families. I had the honor of leading debate on the House Floor on this critical bill twice this past week.

WASHINGTON – Today, Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee Chair Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) and Congressman Joe Sempolinski (NY-23) announced introduction of the 21st Century Assistive Technology Act (H.R. 9028), bipartisan legislation to help people with disabilities live independently by expanding access to assistive technology.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11), Chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee’s Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions, and Education and Labor Committee Chairman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) announced House passage of the Mental Health Matters Act (H.R. 7780), legislation they authored to help confront the mental health crisis by increasing access to support, services, and resources for children, students, workers, and families. The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 220-to-205.
