Perry Fellow at Stanford University, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, and former Foreign Service officer with more than 25 years in the State Department including assignments with responsibilities for Russia and Ukraine.

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend President Biden's State of the Union address and hear him lay out Democrats' plans to continue supporting American families by lowering the costs of their everyday expenses and to support democracy at home and abroad by standing with the people of Ukraine against Vladimir Putin's unlawful, brazen, and horrific attacks on their sovereignty.

I was proud to have First 5 Contra Costa Executive Director Ruth Fernandez join me as my virtual guest in recognition of her work to support the education of children across the County.

As we enter this election year, many of you may have questions about ballots, voting locations, and more. To answer those questions, I'm hosting a town hall on Voting in Contra Costa thisFriday, February 18^th at 12:00 p.m. We will be joined by officials from the Contra Costa County Elections Division who will offer their expertise and take your questions.

Throughout February, we celebrate Black History Month by recognizing the contributions of the African American community to our society, culture, and collective history. I am proud every month to represent and be a part of as diverse a community as Contra Costa. As voting rights come under attack across the country, Congresswoman Barbara Lee and I held a town hall to discuss Democrats' efforts to protect the right of every American to make their voice heard at the ballot box.
