DeSaulnier Digest
Yesterday, Contra Costa and communities across the country celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I was proud to join the Pittsburg community in remembering his remarkable life and service, and speak about the work ahead to ensure his dream is one day realized. In service of Dr. King's legacy, Democrats in Congress are continuing our efforts to advance voting rights legislation that would protect the sacred right of every American to make his or her voice heard at the ballot box. Furthering the work of Dr.
This past week, we recognized the first anniversary of one of the darkest days in our country's history. Since the attack on the U.S. Capitol, Democrats have continued our efforts to protect our democracy, hold those responsible to account, and restore trust in our government.
Happy New Year! As we enter 2022, I am looking forward to continuing our work for you in Congress.
This week we commemorate the one-year anniversary of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. We must not let up in our efforts to hold those responsible to account, safeguard our democracy, and restore trust in our government. I look forward to sharing updates on this work as well as Democrats' continued dedication to delivering historic support to American families in the new year.
As we look ahead to the new year, I am proud to share a report of our community engagement, legislative accomplishments, and constituent services from 2021. I am also excited to provide an update on how the recently-passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will impact the Bay Area as well as the progress Democrats are making to advance the Build Back Better Act, a major and badly-needed investment in American families.
As 2021 comes to a close, we will be hosting an end of the year town hall, Thursday, December 16th at 12:30 p.m. to provide an update on the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the Build Back Better Act. Join us as we discuss the support these bills would provide for American families, including:

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Democrats in Congress recently passed into law a landmark investment in our nation's infrastructure that will create jobs and support families here in Contra Costa and across the country. At U.A. Local 38's training center, I joined Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Representatives Barbara Lee, Jackie Speier, and Anna Eshoo to discuss how the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act would back the labor community, ensure workers across the Bay Area have the training to thrive in our economy, and grow the middle class.
In a major victory for families across the country and here in Contra Costa, the House passed the Build Back Better Act, legislation that would make historic investments in education, child care, paid leave, health care, housing, and more. Through support for early, primary, and secondary education and child care, we are finally ensuring that all children have the opportunity to thrive both in and out of the classroom, no matter where they live or how much their parents earn.
Today I had the honor of attending the White House for the signing of the bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Act, a once-in-a-generation investment to create millions of good paying union jobs, repair our crumbling roads and bridges, improve public transit, provide high-speed internet to every American, deliver clean water for all families, and address climate change.
In a major victory for the American people, House Democrats led the way in passing the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which makes once-in-a-generation investments to repair our nation's crumbling roads and bridges, creates millions of good paying union jobs, and makes public transit more accessible, safe, and efficient across the country and here in the Bay Area. Thanks to this bill, the Bay Area and Contra Costa are expected to receive $4.5 billion to fund projects like upgrading our transit lanes, expanding BART and bus services, and enhancing sidewalks and bike lanes.
